Technical Design Engineer

Technical / Senior Technical Design Engineer - Remote

This is a remote role for someone based anywhere between Southampton - Nottingham. You will be expected on occasion to meet up with your manager at one of their offices which are based in the Midlands / Southern region.

Whether you have a couple of year’s experience or many, you could be considered for this role. We would also consider an Engineer looking to get off the tools and in to Design if you have excellent technical knowledge and can demonstrate the right attitude and behaviours and desire for this opportunity. 

The role

This is a fantastic career opportunity offering an excellent package with high job satisfaction. As a key figure in the design and bid process, you will work primarily with senior consultants and the wider technical design team, servicing enquiries from new and existing clients.

There will be a major focus on CCTV, Access Control, Networking, Systems Integration, Intruder Detection and Perimeter Detection. Whilst training will be provided, you will need to be an expert in most of these areas already.

Your role will be to maximise the client facing time of one or more senior consultants and to work with the wider Design team to ensure deadlines are met. Once a project has been won, you will stay involved, working with the Projects/Operations team to ensure the proper transfer of, and implementation of the project to ensure it will be successfully completed.

General Duties

• Assist clients and/or consultants / wider team, to develop and document client operational requirements in accordance with HOSDB, BSIA and NSI guidance.
• Carry out site surveys to establish design inputs.
• Design systems to meet client operational requirements using company standard technology where possible.
• Produce schematic drawings of systems to compliment proposals using Microsoft Visio.
• Produce cost estimates using company costing package (MS Excel based).
• Produce clear, competent system descriptions as a basis for the design/bid proposal. Contribute to the contract review process to ensure a smooth handover to projects/operations team.
• Working with the projects/operations team produce detailed drawings and schedules.
• Provide assistance to the consultants in the preparation of quotations, tenders, presentations and the winning of new projects.
• Review relevant BSIA and HOSDB guidance and British standards as they are updated/issued.
• Contribute positively to our culture of continuous improvement.
• Input information into the company's Dynamics system.
• Work with the Technical Manager and Development Analysts to identify and qualify new technology and products.
• Work with the Compliance Manager to ensure that designs meet best practice and legislative guidelines.

Desirable

• Analogue signalling protocols, their uses and limitations including RS232,422,485.
• An advanced understanding of IP CCTV systems.
• An understanding of IP networking concepts including the role of hubs, switches, routers and the 7 layer OSI model.
• An understanding of wide area networking technologies including VPNs, ADSL, DSL, leased lines, contention, asymmetric circuits.
• Experience of designing wireless IP systems including point to point, point to multi-point and mesh.
• An understanding of access control, intruder and integrated security systems.
• Experience of estimating mechanical and civil works.
• Experience of using Microsoft packages: Visio, Excel, Word to intermediate or advanced level.
• Experience of working with CCTV Systems including Avigilon, FLIR, IndigoVision and Milestone.
• Experience of working with Access Control Systems including Lenel, CCure, Gallagher or similar
• Experience of video analytics/video content analysis.
• Experience of Autocad or Autocad compatible CAD programme.
• Good attention to detail with the ability to create well-presented proposal documentation.
• Creative thinker with the ability to capture and analyse a client’s requirement and formulate a solution using approved technologies and vendors.

Training

• Training will be given on specific products and systems depending upon the requirements of the candidate. Some general concept training may be available.
• This is a technical position in a rapidly developing marketplace so the candidate will be responsible for identifying their own ongoing training needs.

Remuneration

• £38,000 - £55,000 DOE
