Technical Support Engineer

We have a vacancy for a Networking/Technical Support Engineer to assist with pre and post sales in both design and technical queries. This is a great opportunity to join a unique UK manufacturer who are a leading, global provider of various communication transmission solutions. 

Your Job Role Summary:

• Pre and post-sales support to the sales team.
• Systems design and high and low-level network design.
• Working closely with security systems integrators on small and large complex projects.
• Confidence in customer interfacing and excellent technical knowledge, particularly of ethernet and IP transmission (including ethernet switches, multi-purpose ethernet switch series, POE injectors, IP extenders, video encoders and media converters) is required.
• Excellent knowledge of Cisco and Juniper very beneficial.

Your Responsibilities:

• Put together detailed project designs within tight deadlines.
• Generate technical drawings in Visio to illustrate project designs.
• Liaise with external customers to ensure that the proposed solutions meet required specifications and determine appropriate system design.
• Onsite installation and commissioning support.
• Undertake product testing, customer problem investigations/special engineering configurations.
• Post-sales technical product support.

Skills Required:

• You should have a minimum of an ONC in electronic/engineering and some experience of post-sales technical product support. Alternatively, 1 - 3 years’ experience in an engineering related role.
• If you have Juniper and/or Cisco Certification, this would be highly desirable; there will be a requirement to obtain, develop and maintain Juniper Certification.
• Familiarity with standard ethernet protocols is required, e.g. OSI 7 layer model; ring healing protocols for redundant network ring topologies; VLANs; PoE; IGMP; SNMP etc.
• Practical experience with networking products is expected, to include layer 2 media converters and switches and layer 3 switches and routers.
• Operational knowledge of physical security products, to include analogue and IP CCTV, access control and intrusion panels and their integration and interfacing with networks would be a distinct advantage.
• You should be PC literate with experience of AutoCAD, Visio, MS Word & Excel etc.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
