Works Engineer - Southcoast

Our client is looking for an experienced Works Engineer to join their successful team. Ideally you will have installation experience and basic knowledge of the standard systems but be willing to be put through training if necessary. A normal day for you will include small to large installation, test and commissioning (Cause & Effect Programming) of Fire Alarms & Security Systems around the Southcoast area. You will need to comfortable completing and return all company documentation and certification to comply with the company’s systems and procedures. Our client also requires someone who is confident working within a team and alongside works managers to build on the company’s reputations in quality and customer service.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Various work jobs on Fire alarms & Security systems.
  • Replacing elements of the Fire alarm & Security systems including batteries and detectors.
  • Management of company vehicle and stock.
  • Occasional servicing of Fire alarm & Security systems.
  • Address and manage faults with existing Fire alarm & Security systems.
  • Maintain good customer communications.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of Health & Safety.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function.
  • Ensure legible and timely completion of all company paperwork in line with Company requirements.
  • Be responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner, by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate.
  • This is not intended to be an exhaustive list as the nature of this role requires the employee to take full responsibility for any relevant issues that develop or may be requested from time to time.

 

Accountable for

  • Leaving customers with fully functioning fire detection and alarm systems, unless Engineering Manager/Customer has been informed of the reasons that completion is not possible, before leaving the premises.
  • All own documentation being completed and reaching the required destinations within agreed time limits.
  • Ensuring that customers are always satisfied with the service they receive.

  • Able to troubleshoot and find a solution.
  • Ability to provide a high level of various installation methods.
  • Able to plan, implement and complete activities without assistance.
  • Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification.
  • Deal with customers, end-users, construction personnel and in-house staff in a professional manner.
  • Verbal and written communication.

 

Technical knowledge

  • Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Pt:1.
  • Understands the basic building service systems, e.g. air conditioning systems etc, with a view to interfacing with them.
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm & security problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system.
  • Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA).
  • Manufacturers training with a minimum requirement of Notifier and Gent equipment in respect of servicing, manufacturers Training in all other equipment as required. This may include VESDA, Radio, Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Engineering manager based on regional needs.
  • Note: Specific product training will be arranged within the first 6 months of employment if necessary and possible, to meet the minimum parameters.

 

Remuneration

  • £30,000-£37,000 dependant on experienced + Overtime + Commission (OTE £40,000)
