Bowling for Balance: How We Support Recruiter Wellbeing During Work Hours

Yes, we went bowling. Yes, during work. And yes — it matters.

Last week, our recruitment team stepped away from phones, emails, and interviews to do something a little different: bowling. 

Not after hours. Not a reward dinner. This was a planned, on-the-clock event, part of our ongoing Mental Health & Wellbeing initiative to help recruiters decompress, connect, and feel appreciated in real time, not just in hindsight.

Why do we do this — and why during work hours?

Because recruitment — especially in the fire and security space — can be intense. Pressure, targets, and timelines come with the job. But so should balance, recognition, and support.

That’s why our Mental Health Team leads monthly initiatives during the workday — to make sure everyone has the space to reset, without giving up their personal time to do it.

What’s the benefit of wellbeing events during work?

• Encourages stronger connections between team members

• Normalises real-time rest and recovery

• Shows that appreciation isn’t conditional on performance
